I am running for the Nevada Board of Regents (District 8) because education changed my life. I’m the only college graduate in my family and education gave me the tools and expertise to accomplish my goals of becoming a successful business owner, community leader and public servant.
Education has given people opportunities for many different reasons and through varying experiences. To expand the reach of higher education in Nevada, we need to lower tuition, find new ways to generate revenue, protect our students on and off campus, and expand our workforce development programs. Additionally, we need to promote access to economic growth through education in rural communities across our state. Finally, we need to increase our mental health services, amplify our substance abuse services, and reestablish and strengthen existing relationships with faculty, administrators, legislators, students, and the voters.
As a UNLV, UNR and CSN alumni, I understand what it’s like to be a college student, working 2-3 jobs and going to school full time. As an Executive Board member at UNLV, I understand what it takes to lead by example. As a Military Veteran, I know what it’s like to fight for something I believe in. And as a parent, I understand the sacrifices that each family makes so our next generation has even better opportunities. My goal is to support the continued education of Nevadans so we can improve our national standing in terms of education, employment, economic diversity, financial stability, and quality of life.
