The Board of Regents is a corporate body, legally responsible for the University of Nevada. Its function is to control and manage the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), primarily by setting policy. The exclusive control and administration of the University is vested by the Constitution of the State in an elected Board of Regents.
Nevada’s Board of Regents governs NSHE and are elected to serve a six-year term. Once elected the 13 Regents set policies and approve budgets for Nevada’s entire public system of higher education: four community colleges, one state college, two universities and one research institute.
The eight institutions the Regents govern include: College of Southern Nevada; Desert Research Institute; Great Basin College; Nevada State College; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; and Western Nevada College. NSHE provides educational opportunities to more than 106,000 students.
